How to get your hands on the NEWEST products for free!

With social media serving as a platform for brand ambassadors, it can be difficult for newbies with a limited amount of followers to branch off in the influencer world. Most brand ambassador programs want the person representing their brand to have specific amount of followers to qualify, which is usually 10k and up. With that being said, where does that leave room for the people that have an impact but don’t meet the following requirements?

Personally we love Influenster! Influenster is a platform that allows you to discover new products and review them for consumers. The great thing about this program is that you’ll have the opportunity to receive high quality products in various categories such a beauty, hair, food etc. Signing up for the site is free, all you have to do is make an account and link all of your social media accounts to your profile. When you link your accounts, they will give you an “Impact Score” of Low, Medium or High. Influenster does take social media impact into consideration, but you don’t have to have a large following to qualify for products. This site is very helpful in learning how to be more interactive on social media and in return you’ll be able to receive better products each time you increase your social media impact.

Products will be received in what is known as a “VoxBox”, in order to receive a box you have to be interactive on the site by reviewing your favorite products, being apart of discussions and making list of your favorite products. Number one rule to qualifying for a VoxBox is to ALWAYS fill out a survey whenever one is available. Number one rule for continuing to receive boxes after receiving your first VoxBox is to make sure you complete their campaign, which is to review your box via your social media outlets. You’ll have various task to complete in order to rack up points and unlock special features on the site.

***REMEMBER FILL OUT ANY AND EVERY SINGLE SURVEY THEY GIVE YOU!

We have had major success with consistently receiving brand name products throughout the years. Here are some of the boxes we’ve received:

We highly suggest anyone interested in possible branding opportunities or those who are looking to build their social impact sign up today to begin sharing your insight on these great products.

    Cocktails + Curls DC Review

Hey naturalistas, we’re back with another review! Over the weekend we attended Cocktails and Curls, a social event celebrating women of color and their natural hair. We love checking out any event that is meant to uplift and build the confidence of black women, especially when it comes to our hair. Here’s the scoop on what you missed!

The event took place at Redrocks on H Street in Washington, D.C. Upon entering the event we were immediately greeted by two friendly volunteers who were checking guest in and handing out free drink tickets. The event was sponsored by Jack Daniels so we were able to choose between that or Captain Morgan for our complimentary drink! They offered featured cocktails such as “The Naturalista” and “Curls For the Girls” which were a super cute addition to the theme! The event was split into two parts: the showcasing of popular natural hair care lines and local businesses as well as a panel discussion led by a variation of black female entrepreneurs. Women were also free to mingle amongst one another while enjoying cocktails.

Curls and TGIN were familiar brands showcased at the event. Other hair vendors included a local natural hair care line called Khlova which is distributed in Virginia. It was nice to see that they displayed up and coming organic hair lines that catered to healthy natural hair. Other vendors included were a waist bead jewelry company called, Get Waisted, a local waxing company called, Velvet Wax, and a natural hair towel company by the name of, Soigne. There was also a vendor booth promoting their partner, Hair on Purpose, which is a non profit organization that, “uses hair, beauty and health to support teenage girls in social issues that impact them during their formative years” (Hair on Purpose, 2018). Proceeds from the event supported Hair on Purpose. We were loving all of the featured vendors!

The opening discussion of the panel portion was about natural hair in the workplace. The topic at hand was relatable, yet we felt a little disengaged. The panel group was filled with beautiful intelligent black women who have impressive resumes filled with an extensive amount of experience in their career fields. However, since the topic at hand revolved around natural hair we expected to see panelist rocking their beautiful natural kinky curly mane to further reinforce the message that our natural hair is beautiful the way that it is. These women of course had great insights on career development and were a good representation of women empowerment since all were successful entrepreneurs. We would like to have seen a separate panel of natural hair advocates who we could relay the struggles of natural hair and connect our own issues associated with confidently wearing our hair in it’s natural state. For instance, the women who started the local hair care line, Khlova, would have been an excellent panelist because her line is a direct reflection of the celebration of black women and their natural hair. We don’t want to discredit the panelist, all had positive words of affirmation and encouragement.

For future Cocktails and Curls gatherings, we would like to see the event held at a bigger venue to accomodate all guest comfortably. We thought more seating should have been provided for guests during the panel discussion so that everyone could devote their full attention to the speakers without being interrupted by people walking or standing in front of them.

After the panel ended the music turned back on and people were connecting, dancing and having fun with each other! On our way out at the end of the night we were given complimentary gift bags filled with various natural hair goodies. Check out the the video below if you would like to see what we got inside of our goodie bag. We loved that the bags were filled with quality products!

Overall, we had an enjoyable time and really liked the concept of the event. We understand that this was an introductory event for Cocktails and Curls and there is always room for improvements and alterations for the next one to come. We think that it’s important for the target audience to give feedback in order to maximize the guest experience for the next event. If you attended cocktails and curls leave a comment below and tell us about your experience!

*Disclaimer* This review was in no way meant to criticize the hosts of the event, we’re just offering honest opinions and suggestions for future events.

My Favorite Skincare Products Under $20

Hey everyone, it’s Ronnesha! I’m gonna share some skincare tips with you all, yayyy! Now look here, I wouldn’t consider myself to have perfect skin, but I have cleared up my skin drastically over the past couple of years. I wanted to share with you all my list of inexpensive skincare products that have helped me minimize acne and acne scarring. You don’t have to spend big bucks on quality skin care products to have healthy skin. Consistently using all of these products have done wonders for my skin! Let’s jump into the list! P.S. I included the price and links to each product/brand I use!

    Vitamin E

    (Walmart, $5.94)

Vitamin E used to be my daily moisturizer, in high school I used to glaze my face with it and people used to say, “Why are you sweating profusely?” The reason I didn’t mind going to school looking like I just ran a marathon, was because this stuff did wonders for my skin. It alleviated dark acne scars and my blotchiness. Now to combat the greasy look when I’m out in public,  I mix my vitamin E with my actually facial moisturizer. When I go to bed at night, I wash my face and put nothing but vitamin e on it.

    Witch Hazel

    (Walmart, $3.64)

I use witch hazel as a natural toner. After washing my face, I use a cotton ball to wipe it all over my face to remove any extra impurities. It’s really great for controlling acne blemishes.

    100% Tea Tree Oil

    (Vitamin Shoppe, $6.79)

Tea tree oil is a great spot treatment, I put it on my face. It’s pretty strong so mix with a carrier oil, I use vitamin e so that I don’t get acne scars.

    Mario Badescu Drying Lotion

    (Ulta, $17 )

This is a great spot treatment as well, whenever I sense a pimple coming I immediately put this on my face. I sleep with it on overnight as well. Oh this is a powerful product, so it may sting a little. (p.s. if you sleep with this product on beware that it will rub off on your pillowcases and sheets)

    Mario Badescu Facial Spray

    (Ulta, $7)

If you’re seeking seeking dewy, bright, glowing skin, I would suggest this spray. When I wear makeup I tend to go for the No-Makeup, Makeup look, my everyday look is usually just my eyebrow filled in and mascara, when I spray this on my face I get an instant glow.

    Elf Daily Moisturizer

    (Target,$8)

I’ve always had trouble with moisturizers drying out my skin, this is one of my favorite moisturizers because it actually MOISTURIZES my face. This moisturizer is infused with Vitamin E, Shea Butter and Jojoba Oil. The texture is very smooth and creamy and doesn’t leave behind a filmy residue.

7th Heaven Facial Tea Tree Peel

    (Ulta, $1.99)

Sooo I am really obsessed with products that have tea tree in it. This is hands down one of the best peels I’ve ever used. Tea tree is for the strong (lol), when applying this peel you instantly feel a tingly somewhat medicated sensation, which for some people could be too intense, but I don’t mind the feeling at all.

    St. Eves Facial Scrub

    (Walmart, $3.63)

This is definitely one of my favorite inexpensive facial scrubs, this scrub comes in many variations for different types of skin and problem areas. I tend to use the “Blemish Control” scrub.

Aztec Clay mixed w/ Apple Cider Vinegar

(Amazon  Aztec Clay $8.80; Walmart, Braggs ACV $5.62)

Anyone that is really into skincare will know that this stuff is amazing. I found out about this mask about 2 years ago, my forehead was breaking out so bad and I was desperate to find the perfect product to help clear it up. I love mixing it with ACV because I feel like i’m getting the maximum effect of both products. This mask gets super tight, I can feel my pores being pulled shut! After removing the mask, your face will be really red but don’t be alarmed the redness will go away in a couple of minutes! I would advise you to NOT sleep in this mask or keep it on for longer period time past the suggested time length or you’ll be chiseling it off your face for hours.

    Water

(You already know where to find this)

For the most part, water is free. Drinking at least 8 cups of water a day is very beneficial for your skin. Like most kids I HATED water growing up, now that I am an adult I try to drink nothing but water.

Tea Tree Facial Wash By Body Shop

    (Body Shop, $11.20)

I’ve been wanting to try this facial wash for a while, so I purchased it a couple month ago and have been hooked on it ever since.

Tea Tree Soap By Dr. Bronners

(Ulta, $4.69 or If you live near a Mom’s Organic Market get it from their because it’s cheaper)

This is the soap I use for my body because it is one of the only quality organic soaps that is close to your bodies natural pH. This soap is also the only bar soap I feel comfortable using on my face. This soap is amazing, it really has kept my skin clear.

    [qodef_separator class_name=”” type=”full-width” position=”center” color=”pink” border_style=”dashed” width=”” thickness=”” top_margin=”” bottom_margin=””]

If you hadn’t noticed, tea tree was the reappearing product on my list, remember that tea tree is pretty strong so please use it moderately. Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed the list! Comment if you are interested in using or already using some of the products I’ve listed above, let me know how it’s helped you out! Also, comment if you know of any other great inexpensive skin care products I should try out!

    Love,

    Ronnesha

    Naturalista Hair Show Review!

Sorry this post is super delayed! We wanted to release content from the Naturalista Hair Show shortly after we attended the show but we were busy with travel, moving and getting our website together! But, as we promised, here is our review of the show!

On September 16th, 2017 we attended the 5th annual Naturalista Hair Show (NHS) in Silver Spring, Maryland. The hair show was created by the talented Angela Walker, owner of N Natural Hair Studio Salon located in Silver Spring, MD. When we came across the event on instagram we immediately got excited, we were even more excited when we found out our good friend, Deborah Martins, would be hosting a couple panels at the event.

Seeing so many beautiful, fearless, confident  women come together at one event was so powerful and motivational. As naturalista’s we get a lot of backlash for wearing natural kinks and curls, dreads and braids, so it’s important that we support events that shine light on how beautiful we are being our natural selves. Aside from the NHS being a motivational event promoting healthy hair and self-love, it was an outlet for various self made business owners to showcase their work. We loved walking through the event and seeing food vendors, florist,  handmade organic beauty products, apparel and accessories produced specifically by local black owned businesses.

When it came to the hair vendors we were very happy with the selection, they had booths from top name brands such as Uncle Funky’s Daughter and Camille Rose Naturals. I don’t know about you guys but we tend to be really picky when it comes to hair products, it takes a lot out of us to try different things because once we get a good routine we don’t want to mess it up (lol). All the brand ambassadors were very friendly and knowledgeable of the products, so we were pretty eager to try something new!

We thought it was creative how the show was split up between day and night. During the day the featured popular social media influencers and health advocates speak about various topics. The blogger panel had well-known naturalista bloggers @HazelGoddess, @Kiitana and @Ronkeraji. The after show was strictly 21 and up and showcased sip & paint, salsa dancing, men’s grooming services, speed dating, men’s panel and various musical performances. In the main room, the hilarious Jasmin Brown, also known as @WatchJazzy on instagram, hosted the night time activities. Motivational speaker/relationship guru Derrick Jaxn, participated in the Men’s panel and dropped some major knowledge! We’re so mad we weren’t able to capture the the Men’s panel, our memory card was full! Anyways, there were a multitude of activities to participate in! We found the after show to be very entertaining because it felt like one big party! While we were on our way out the door to leave the event, volunteers handed us complimentary goodie bags filled with quality samples from Shea Moisture, Palmers and Lotta Body!

Overall, our experience was really amazing, and there is no doubt that we will be attending the next show! Our only suggestion in regards to the event would be to have the event at a bigger venue in order to properly spread out all the activities. This is such a large scale event, we feel they are deserving of more space in order to accommodate all their guest. This concludes our review, we hope to see all you naturalistas at the next show! If any of you all went to the show give us your thoughts!

    WATCH OUR RECAP:

Don’t forget to subscribe to our Youtube Channel, there will be more videos to come!

Some of the activities we didn’t get to capture because we ran out of memory on our SD card, please enjoy the footage we were able to get!
